Professional, environmentally conscious, innovative and inclusive. Tim and belinda have undertaken a broad range of architectural projects of varying scale, budget, and complexity. Hungerford+edmunds was formed in 2003 by tim hungerford and belinda edmunds following successful collaboration on abercrombie st cottage and offices for infinity constructions. Hungerford+edmunds is a design and process orientated architectural office practicing in the public and private domain, and finding creative and alternative outcomes to challenging briefs. Their diverse backgrounds and combined 25 years professional experience have fostered an approach that uniquely responds to individual situations, and benefits from ideas, concepts and thinking on a broad level.

Tim has also provided architectural consultancy to Oculus, landscape architects, concentrating on urban design and town planning projects in both in Australia and Fresh Zealand. The house now works really well, and we use every portion of it’. The defy of the terrace is to use every corner This close attention to detail instantly hits home in the spacious and sophisticated fore living room’ and the space, light and storage throughout’. The environmentally sustainable design has high thermal mass double glazed timber window joinery an air taut and highly insulated envelope natural ventilation a photo voltaic system visible from the gallery space as sun shading and rainwater harvesting. Commendation for trivial project architecture. The brief included the need for a clear street address for the property that would feel like a single family home, and fresh balconies opening directly from enlarged living areas to take packed advantage of the views and northern sunlight. The balustrades are timber batten with firm timber top rail, providing warmth and texture to the elevations, and privacy to the balconies. The amenity of the apartments has been significantly improved, and the street presentation transformed to that of a homey and contemporary home. Rainwater is harvested from the roofs, and is worn to supply the amenities building. With no walls, the roof is the elevation. Adaptive reuse of a state important heritage listed King Street building for retail and offices, the facade was previously restored by Tanner Architects. The new third smooth comprises an extra bedroom with a second living room opening onto the roof terrace and BBQ area. The addition is a two place pavilion, physically and aesthetically explicit from the creative house, forming a private courtyard and retaining the garden streets cape. The floor of the fresh labor is a dark charcoal concrete that extends out into the courtyard, providing an informal seating edge and wrapping up around the pool. The environmentally sustainable design has lofty thermal mass, and a highly insulated envelope. The girders are the principle design element, and precast concrete was selected as a building material over steel or insitu definite for its tall slick of complete and, quality control. Tim Hungerford was the consultant architect to Oculus for the project. The existing building has a tangible frame with brick walls (it was originally a wartime emergency gas pumping station and was designed to be blast proof). The raw finishes of the existing are retained, with the fresh structure partly suspended from the concrete beams. The materiality compliments the existing building and is clearly legible as a fresh insertion. The client concise was for a four bedroom house employing superior practice in environmentally sustainable design. The valley skill ion roof was derived as a response to the orientation, and delivers winter sun to the main living areas. The project demonstrates the lenient integration of environmentally sustainable design with a usual example of a Victorian terrace, contemporary adaptation is clearly legible against the restored clever building, and provides a four bedroom home with powerful environmental credentials. The creative single store house will be retained and a contemporary addition to the rear will bear three levels of excess accommodation overlooking the city with a new pool and landscaped garden.
