Management in Manly, Institute in Manly

Australia needs top performing police and emergency service executives with vast integrity and character. The Australian Institute of Police Management (aim) plays an urgent role in ensuring that this occurs, through the provision of executive development and leadership programs for police and emergency services personnel. The aim was established over 50 years ago and, since then, more than 600 senior police officers have attended our executive development programs. The aim has been integral in developing police and emergency service managers and executives through our management and leadership programs. The Institute also provides same programs for and volunteer organizations involved in public safety and emergency services. Institute programs have a reputation for distinguished quality. A major contributing factor to this quality is the involvement of senior executives from the corporate sector as presenters in our programs. Many of these people have very generously given their time to the aim for years because they want to make a personal contribution to the preservation of law and order in our community. They bring a prosperity of diversity and experience to our classroom activities, and course members value their contributions very highly. They also now include senior personnel from our neighboring nations in the Pacific and South East Asia. This diversity brings an international dimension to our courses, resulting in senior Australian police officers not only learning about how other police operate, but also developing international professional networks that are essential in their coming careers. The setting provides a peaceful, non distracting environment ideal for professional development, yet is only three kilometers from the Manly shopping precinct and beach. It was built as Crews’ quarters, established in accordance with ships’ policies of keeping the crew well segregated from passengers, and in the under levels of the ship. Supplies could be unloaded for the crew at the ingenious dock in Spring Cove. As the need for Crews’ quarters diminished, the buildings were utilized in other ways, such as housing for migrants with no other accommodation. The buildings were placed lower the administration of the Commonwealth Department of Health in 1925. In 1957, the buildings were utilized by the Commonwealth Government for the purpose of establishing an Australian Police College for executive training of Commonwealth police officers. Latter a review of the College during 1994, it was decided that the name of the College should be changed to reflect its new role and direction in Australian Policing. The Institute provides senior management, executive development, education and consultancy services at the national glossy for Australasian police and public safety agencies. Police jurisdictions recognize the aim as Australasia’s leading provider of executive development programs for police, and highly value its contribution to police leadership in their organizations and the community.
